Hospitality venues have long been the catalyst that turns space into place. When a new neighbourhood opens, what transforms empty concrete into somewhere with community and soul is often the corner café, or the small bar that locals claim as their own. Zoom out to a national level and you see an enormous web of social capital built by an industry of dedicated professionals, passionate about good food, drink and hospitality.

It’s an industry woven into the cultural fabric of a society. Taking time out to share food and drink is inherently human, a universal language that connects people and tells stories about who we are. When hospitality thrives, so too does a city.

But for those who run it, the challenges are immense. Tight margins, staffing pressures, and the relentless pace of service have always been part of the equation, but they’re now compounded by shifting consumer expectations and a post-pandemic landscape. That’s why conversations about rethinking the industry, from how we value its workforce to how we experience dining, matter so much.
